HIGHLAND PARK, IL — A Chicago man with a replica gun was arrested in Highland Park last week, according to police.

On Jan. 9, police received a report of suspicious behavior at a commercial building at 1821 St. Johns Ave. According to the reporting party, a man was refusing to leave the store despite being asked.

After that report, police received another call about the same man. The second caller told police they overheard the man talking about a shooting and immediately called the police. When the Highland Park Police Department arrived at the location, officers placed the man, who was identified as 42-year-old Leon Jumpp, under arrest.

According to HPPD, Jumpp was found to be in possession of a red and silver Glock replica with a translucent barrel with bronze gears inside and a red tip. Police determined that the gun was a toy and was not a functioning firearm.

Authorities also discovered that Jumpp was in possession of one real 9MM Luger bullet, which resulted in the man being charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. Jumpp was transported to First Appearance Court in Waukegan on Jan. 10.
