Man killed, 14-year-old wounded in shooting in hallway of Bronx apartment building

Police are searching for the gunman who opened fire in the Bronx, killing one and wounding a 14-year-old boy.

It happened on the 7th floor hallway at Adee Avenue in Allerton on Saturday just before 6:30 p.m.

Officers were in and out of Eastchester Gardens all night as detectives looked for clues that could lead them to the people responsible for opening fire.

The shooting happened right outside Leon Stafford's door.

"I was just in my room doing my studying and I heard a 'bang, bang, bang' three times, right? When I ran to the door I seen three people running downstairs near the staircase and then I saw an individual holding my doorknob, so I pushed him out the way," Stafford said.

Stafford works a security job at a local nursing home and is tired of coming home and not feeling safe in his own building.

"When I'm coming back at 12 a.m. at night I see kids chilling in the park. That should not happen. That is completely unacceptable because this neighborhood is not the sagest because the gangs, kids hanging out and constant use of gun violence," says Stafford.

"We lost somebody young in front of the building like a year ago," said a resident named Ray.

Residents say this is a more frequent occurrence, unfortunately. One man heard the shots and initially thought they were coming from outside and remembered a previous gang conflict - then realized the shots went off a few floors above him.

Stafford wants to see police presence more regularly.

"The neighborhood has been filled with gangs for like the past 20 years now. So I believe that if law enforcement has a little bit more presence, these things would be lessened," he added.

He hopes that more police will help deter people from pulling the trigger.

No arrests have been made.

Police are looking for multiple suspects.
