The man injured after a shooting involving Omaha police officers during a reported burglary appeared in court Friday.Dean Wies is charged with attempted first-degree assault on an officer, burglary, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and use of a firearm to commit a felony.The incident happened earlier this month in the area of 152nd and Spencer streets.Officers were called to the area for a report of a burglary after a 911 caller said they heard a person trying to enter their home.Previous coverage: Omaha Police Department identifies officers involved in shooting that injured manAccording to the OPD, officers were met outside the residence by the owner of the home, and then, when officers attempted to contact the person in the backyard, the suspect broke the glass on the patio door and went inside the home.The OPD said aerial camera footage, as well as evidence from the scene, showed that the suspect used a gun to fire multiple rounds into the glass door in order to get inside.A shots-fired call was reported, and officers took cover, authorities said.Omaha police identify man shot by officers during a burglary callOmaha police said Wies exited the residence through the front door holding a firearm, which he fired at officers. Two officers, Jamelle Ross and Andrew Wulf, fired back, striking Wies, Omaha police said.A Douglas County Sheriff's Office K-9 handler approached Wies with his dog, who bit Wies "while the handgun remained within the suspect's reach," authorities said.Prosecutors said Wies has an extensive history of domestic violence in connection with the victim in the incident. He was held on 10% of a $1 million bond.According to Omaha police, both Ross and Wulf were interviewed about the incident.
