A 63-year-old man says he was bound and robbed Friday morning by an armed suspect who impersonated a police officer during a home invasion in the Tacony section of Philadelphia.
Police responded to the 6700 block of Marsden Street around 8:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a break-in.
The victim, who declined to appear on camera, told Action News the suspect wore a mask and a shirt labeled "Police" when he forced his way inside.
The man said he was handcuffed, his legs were bound, and his mouth was duct-taped as the suspect demanded money.
After two hours, the victim said he managed to break free and call for help. The suspect fled the scene with the victim's wallet and keys.
Nearby residents described the scene as unusual for the typically quiet neighborhood.
"I've never seen that many cops out here. It's usually peaceful," said Cameron Edwards of Tacony. "When I saw all the cops, I thought, 'Oh, something's up.'"
"I heard the sirens. I was upstairs in my room," said Nyeemah Wright, another neighbor. "I peeked out, saw a bunch of cops, then stayed inside."
Police said they witnessed a 24-year-old suspect attempting to flee in a white Jeep Cherokee. Chopper 6 captured aerial footage of the suspect being taken into custody near the scene. Officers recovered a weapon during the arrest.
The Jeep was found parked two doors down from the home where the invasion occurred.
Authorities confirmed the victim did not sustain serious injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
Police did not provide information that the suspect was, in fact, impersonating a police officer.
