The 36-year-old man accused in a shooting that injured an Omaha police officer appeared in court on those charges Wednesday.Shedrick Mills is charged with attempted second-degree murder, use of a firearm to commit a felony, and possession of a weapon by a prohibited person.Mills is accused of shooting Omaha police officer Steven Murcek, a 16-year veteran of the department, during a disturbance outside the QuikTrip near 119th Street and West Dodge Road early Monday morning. "These are fake charges, sir, I was set up. Prosecutors said Mills has a pending domestic violence case and multiple misdemeanors in Douglas County, as well as a fugitive case from Iowa with three failure to appear convictions. They asked for a bond that's "commensurate with the serious threat to the physical safety of persons in the community."According to defense attorneys, Mills "is suffering from serious mental illness which appears to have significantly contributed to this alleged situation."A judge set bond at 10 percent of $3 million for Mills in this case.
