The man accused of shooting an Omaha police officer Monday appeared in court Tuesday for a separate domestic violence case.Thirty-six-year-old Shedrick Mills was in Douglas County Court for charges stemming from a domestic incident that occurred months ago. However, Tuesday’s court appearance focused on unrelated domestic violence charges.“The defendant took the cell phone, threw it on the ground," said the county prosecutor. "The defendant then punched the victim in the nose, once again retrieving the cell phone and throwing her cell phone to the ground a second time."According to the original police report, the victim is Mills’ ex-girlfriend, with whom he shares a child. The report states that the two met to discuss seeing his child when a verbal disagreement escalated into violence.“Officers on the scene observed the victim’s nose to be swollen. It would appear to be blood all over her face, chest, shoes and feet,” the county prosecutor said.READ MORE: Omaha police identify officer injured, 36-year-old man arrested in shootingThe prosecutor noted that Mills has prior misdemeanor convictions for reckless driving, shoplifting, and DUI, but no previous history of domestic assault.“Set the bond to $25,000, 10 percent with a pretrial release on that matter, no contact with the victim,” the judge ordered.Mills entered a not guilty plea. His pretrial hearing in the domestic violence case is scheduled for December 2025.He is scheduled to appear in court again Wednesday in connection with Monday’s arrest.According to the affidavit, Mills admitted during an interview with investigators to the shooting and to possessing a firearm, which he claimed to have purchased from a pawn shop. The affidavit also states that Mills has an “active extraditable arrest” in Iowa.
