The father and grandmother of a young boy who was found dead inside a cooler in a Lynwood apartment made their first court appearance Monday on murder, torture and child abuse charges.
The boy's father, Daniel Alberto Monzon, 25, is now scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 25, while the boy's grandmother, Ana Carcamo Zarceno, 45, is scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 20, along with the boy's mother, Destiny Luckie Harrison, 25, who made her first court appearance Friday.
The body of the boy, believed to be 8 years old, was found in a cooler in their Lynwood apartment by deputies making a welfare check last week. Prosecutors identified the victim as Isaiah H.
A criminal complaint said the child was allegedly abused by his mother, father and paternal grandmother over a long period of time, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
"The boy succumbed to his injuries early on Oct. 24 and his body was found days later in a cooler filled with ice," the DA's office said in a news release.
Three additional children, two teenagers and a 9-month-old, were also found at the scene and taken into protective custody by the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services.
All three suspects face one felony count each of murder, torture and child abuse resulting in death with allegations that they caused willful harm resulting in death, prosecutors said. Their bail is set at $2 million.
If convicted as charged, they each face 32 years to life in state prison.
