Lynwood boy killed: Parents, grandmother charged after 8-year-old Isaiah H. found dead in cooler in Lynwood, California

The parents and grandmother of an 8-year-old boy who was found dead inside an ice-filled cooler in a Southern California apartment have been charged with murder and other counts.

The victim was identified as Isaiah H. in a statement released by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

The child's mother, 25-year-old Destiny Luckie Harrison, father, 25-year-old Daniel Alberto Monzon, and paternal grandmother, 46-year-old Ana Carcamo Zarceno, were charged with one felony count each of murder, torture and child abuse resulting in death with allegations that they caused willful harm resulting in death, prosecutors said.

The father and grandmother were also charged with being an accessory after the fact.

According to the criminal complaint, Isaiah was allegedly abused by the three defendants "over a long period of time." The child succumbed to his injuries early on Oct. 24 and his body was found on Oct. 28 in the cooler.

Deputies were called shortly after 8:30 p.m. local time to a Lynwood apartment building in the 3100 block of Euclid Avenue, near Santa Fe Avenue.

Authorities received a call reporting a dead child. When deputies arrived at the apartment complex to conduct a welfare check, they made the grim discovery. Authorities initially said his body was found inside a freezer.

The child's mother, father and grandmother were arrested after the body was found, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Bail for each of the three defendants was set at $2 million. If convicted as charged, they each face 32 years to life in state prison, the D.A.'s office said.

"The horrific abuse that Isaiah endured is made even worse by the fact that, as alleged, it was at the hands of the people who were meant to love and protect him," L.A. County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said in a statement. "Our office is committed to ensuring that those responsible are held fully accountable for their actions and that justice will be secured for Isaiah."

Three additional children, ages 16, 13 and 9 months, were also found at the scene and taken into protective custody by the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services.
