A popular bowling alley in Lodi is preparing to reopen Saturday after a shooting outside the business Sunday night left two people injured.Antoinette Medlin, an employee at the Lodi Bowling Lounge and Bar, described the situation as "scary." Bullets flew through the building during the shooting.Desiree Cervantez, the general manager at the bowling lounge, recounted the moment she received the alarming call. "The fear in her voice was traumatizing. It was dropped, my heart— it dropped to my stomach. I didn't know what to do because I couldn't get here fast enough," Cervantez said.Inside the building, workers and customers were terrified. "She was in the bathroom, and you can hear the shots going, but she did say they're shooting up the building. She had no information of who it was, where they were," Cervantez said. "She was protecting herself as well as another employee that she had in the bathroom with her."Armed security guards quickly responded to the situation. "Once she figured out what was happening, she turned around and she held down that door. There were two shots fired back from our security guard to the person who was shooting to the building," she said."Our security guards kept everybody inside so that nobody would get hurt because we had no way of telling what was ongoing," Medlin added.Cervantez arrived at the bowling alley within minutes. "I saw two police officers. When I first arrived, I ran straight through the door, and I just saw damage and glass," she said. The bowling alley is now left with boarded-up doors and patched-up bullet holes. "We're stepping up security every single day of the week. We will be secure from the time we open to the time we close," Medlin said. The business already has armed security on weekends, but has now increased it. Additionally, they are adding an extra metal detector. "You can't control where this is going to happen and when this is going to happen and so all we can do is be there for support for each other and just hope that our security measures are going to make our guests and our staff feel comfortable," Medlin said.Lodi police reported that two people were injured in the incident, and two suspects, including a 16-year-old boy, were arrested on charges of attempted murder and weapons offenses.See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app | Subscribe to our morning newsletter | Find us on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel
