PLAINFIELD, IL — A pistol was found in a car that was searched Tuesday night in the parking lot of Thornton's, Plainfield police said.

Officers first approached the car at about 11:45 p.m. after they noticed it parked diagonally across two parking spots outside the gas station, located at 15800 S. Route 59. The driver was reclined in the front seat, and police spoke with him to see if he needed help and why the car was parked incorrectly, Sgt. Luke Ostreko told Patch.

While speaking to the driver, identified as Marshawn Henderson, the officer "observed multiple signs of impairment" that prompted an investigation. As a result, the 53-year-old resident of Aurora was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

While searching Henderson's car, which was subject to tow and impound procedures, police found a loaded 9mm Beretta pistol on the rear passenger-side seat.

Henderson was additionally charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon. He was then released from the Plainfield Police Department.
