Livermore freeway shooting: Oakland man arrested after shooting passenger on I-580 in the East Bay

A man was arrested Saturday evening following a shooting inside a car traveling on Interstate 580 in Livermore, the California Highway Patrol said in a statement.

Just after 5:30 p.m. Saturday, CHP responded to a report of a shooting that occurred on the eastbound I-580 before Fallon Road. The shooting allegedly happened inside one car and did not involve other vehicles. One person was shot.

After the shooting, the suspect allegedly threw a firearm from the car onto the freeway. The car exited the freeway, and passengers called 911.

All eastbound lanes were shut down while CHP officers recovered the firearm and searched for other potential evidence.

Officers detained and interviewed the 41-year-old of Oakland. He was arrested on suspicion of felony child endangerment and various weapons violations.

The victim was taken to a hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body.

Detectives with the CHP Golden Gate Division Major Crime Unit will continue the investigation.
