Police swarmed an apartment building in downtown Los Angeles following reports of a shooting Wednesday morning.
Officers around 5:30 a.m. responded to a report of shots fired at the Broadway Palace Apartments at 9th Street and Broadway, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The department quickly confirmed that it was not an active shooter situation.
AIR7 was overhead where several patrol vehicles could be seen stationed around the building, which could be as tall as 10 stories.
Dozens of fire trucks and patrol vehicles remained on scene hours later as officers combed the building looking for evidence of a shooting, as well as any victims for suspects.
"It is floor by floor, and then we'll hold those floors to make sure that no one comes behind us... it just takes some time," said Capt. Mike Bland.
Initial reports suggested that they were looking for a woman with a rifle on a balcony, but police later said they had no description of a possible suspect.
There were also no indications that anybody was hit or injured.
Residents who live in the area told Eyewitness News they didn't hear any gunshots but were startled so see so many first responders.
The LAPD was asking people living in the building to shelter in place during the investigation.
