LAPD releases video of deadly shooting outside 7-Eleven in Reseda

The Los Angeles Police Department has released new video of a police shooting earlier this month in which a suspect was shot and killed in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven store in Reseda.

The incident happened on December 8 when officers responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon near Sherman Way and Wilbur Avenue.

When they got to the scene, officers met with a person who said they had been shot.

"As officers were speaking with the victim, they heard gunfire near their location," read a statement from police.

A police helicopter helped officers find the suspect in front of the convenience store. He was identified as 39-year-old Alex Canizales.

When officers encountered Canizales, who was armed with a handgun, according to police, an officer-involved shooting occurred.

Canizales was shot and died at the scene. Meantime, a handgun was recovered and booked as evidence.

Police also said a resident sustained a superficial injury, possibly from shrapnel fired from Canizales' handgun.

The incident remains under investigation.
