New body camera video shows the moment police officers opened fire on an assault suspect in Northridge.
The incident happened on July 20 when officers responded to a call about a man armed with a gun near Prairie Street.
An LAPD helicopter first spotted the suspect - identified as 28-year-old Romario Iraheta - riding a skateboard, attempting to flee, according to police.
The video, which was posted on the LAPD's YouTube channel , shows Iraheta riding the skateboard near a shopping center then jumping off as an LAPD vehicle approached him.
Iraheta suddenly takes off running and an officer starts to run after him.
Police said during the foot pursuit, Iraheta pointed a firearm at officers. That's when officers opened fire.
"Iraheta was struck by gunfire but continued to run, stopping a short time later, and was taken into custody," said police.
The suspect was rushed to hospital and was later booked for assault with a deadly weapon a police officer.
No other injuries were reported.
Police said a black steel handgun, loaded with a high-capacity magazine and live rounds, was recovered at the scene and booked as evidence.
The incident remains under investigation.
