JOLIET, IL — A 36-year-old Wilmington man who also has ties to Essex is now in the Will County Jail after Joliet police say Caleb Hanson tried to injure multiple police officers following an incident this week at the Motel 6 on McDonough Street.
Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said that Hanson was put in the jail on three counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, two counts of aggravated assault to a peace officer, two counts of resisting/obstructing a peace officer and one domestic battery count.
English said the disturbance happened in the middle of Tuesday afternoon at 1850 McDonough Street. Hanson was accused of repeatedly knocking on doors at the motel, English advised.
Additionally, Hanson allegedly struck his girlfriend and pulled her hair.
At the Motel 6, the officers made contact with Hanson, who appeared to be agitated and injured by unknown means. Hanson refused medical assistance. During this interaction, Hanson was acting erratic and grabbed an officer's hand and pushed it away and then swung at the officer but missed, the arrest report showed.
Hanson then retreated into a guest room and refused repeated commands from the police. He began pointing his cell phone and other objects at officers in the form of a weapon while concealing himself, English pointed out.
He said the officers ultimately forced entry into the motel room due to Hanson's continued threatening behavior and Hanson was taken into custody following a brief struggle.
While being escorted to a patrol car, Hanson kicked an officer, and he later spit at another officer during the transport to the Will County Jail, English added.
