Community members in Yolo County gathered Saturday to support each other and learn how to respond to potential immigration raids following recent arrests in northern California. The meet up came after masked border patrol agents conducted a raid at a Home Depot parking lot in South Sacramento earlier this week, resulting in multiple arrests.“I see a lot of people living in fear,” said Daniel Villegas, of Yolo County. For several hours in Woodland Saturday afternoon, community members asked questions, voiced concerns and worked through rumors circulating on social media.A representative from United Farm Workers said anyone who sees something unusual to document it, encouraging community members to use resources from Nor-Cal Resist, including its "Migra Watch" ICE hotline (916-382-0256.)"We're really concerned. We do not want ICE in Yolo County, so we're coming together, getting educated and, organizing in case they do come,” said Veronica Cano, another Yolo County resident.Eva Ortega expressed her concern, saying, "People are scared."Still, Ortega felt encouraged by the number of people willing to help."I have family, I have friends, they’re at home. They don't want to go out (to) eat, enjoy the family or come and buy groceries. That's not okay."Nor-Cal Resist has scheduled an online training for tomorrow night to educate community members about ICE activity.
