Immigrant rights advocates in Southern California are calling for volunteers to help document U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity in real time.
The Save America Movement held a news conference on Wednesday to announce a new initiative called Operation Liberty, which plans to have trained camera crews and volunteers help capture the operations as they're happening.
Organizers have purchased three vans, which will be equipped with all the gear they need.
"We are also seeking lawyers, chaplains and veterans to bear witness with us as we work with rapid response networks in the community to document these activities," said Mary Corcoran with the Save America Movement.
Organizers said the money to buy the vehicles came from small donations, adding that the average donation is $28.
They said more than 100,000 people from across the U.S. contributed. They're hoping to get more vehicles and more resources.
"We're going to follow up on any information that reaches us about where an immigration raid is taking place, because we want to go there their and bear witness to what's happening," said Juan Jose Gutierrez with the Full Rights for Immigrants Coalition.
Operation Liberty is set to start this Saturday at MacArthur Park in Los Angeles.
Organizers said the work will be done "orderly, peacefully, and lawfully."
