Illinois State Police chase ends in Garfield Park car crash; Chicago police officer, carjacked vehicle's driver hurt: ISP

A police chase ended in a crash on Chicago's West Side, injuring a police officer and the driver of a carjacked vehicle early Saturday morning.

Illinois State Police said troopers found the vehicle around 1:15 a.m., but the driver fled.

At one point, three passengers ran away from the vehicle, ISP said.

ISP said the vehicle then crashed head-on into a Chicago police squad car at West Madison Street and North Pulaski Road in t he Garfield Park neighborhood.

The carjacked vehicle's driver tried to run away but was stopped by officers.

That driver and a CPD officer suffered injuries and were transported to a local hospital.

Authorities did not immediately provide further information.
