SAN BERNARDINO, CA — A 22-year-old man is facing vehicular manslaughter charges after he was accused of leading police on a 130 mph chase that ended in a deadly crash, with two adults and two teenagers ejected from the car, authorities said.
San Bernardino resident Alana Marina Juarez, 21, was killed in the Saturday night crash after she was thrown from a passenger seat inside the vehicle, according to the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department.
At approximately 11:48 p.m., deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for running a red light in San Bernardino in the area of Arden Avenue and the west 210 freeway, Officer Jenny Smith told Patch.
The vehicle failed to stop for deputies and a pursuit began, the department said.
Officials said the suspect vehicle was driving at speeds in excess of 130 mph and changing lanes recklessly while attempting to evade deputies. Squad cars trailed the suspect vehicle for nearly 50 miles before the driver lost control of the car on the east 210 Freeway offramp, leading to N State Street.
The driver, 22-year-old Frank Paul Rodriguez Jr. and three passengers — Juarez and two teenage boys — were all ejected from the vehicle, the agency said. While Juarez died of her injuries at the scene, the other three were taken to local hospitals.
Smith told Patch on Wednesday that the two teenagers are still recovering from their injuries.
Rodriguez, Jr., of Rialto, is being held on $250,000 bail after he was arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center.
Detectives are still investigating the incident and whether drugs and alcohol were a factor, Smith said. No other information was immediately available.
