'Horrified to hear': Nebraska and Iowa leaders react to shooting of guardsmen in D.C.

The congressional delegations from Nebraska and Iowa are reacting to the shooting of two National Guardsmen in Washington, D.C. Wednesday. Nebraska Sen. Deb Fischer said she was "horrified to hear" of the shooting in a post on X. "As we await more details, please join me in praying for them and thanking local law enforcement for responding swiftly to the scene," writes Sen. Fischer. Sen. Pete Ricketts echoed Fischer's sentiments, writing he is also praying for the two guardsmen and their families. "Those who did this must be held accountable," wrote Sen. Ricketts.Nebraska Rep. Adrian Smith said he is also keeping the two wounded in his prayers.Nebraska Congressman Don Bacon called the shooting "horrific" in his statement on social media."Angie and I are keeping the two West Virginia National Guardsmen, their families, friends, and fellow soldiers in our prayers after this horrific shooting. I’m glad the perpetrator has been caught and hope they are held to the fullest extent of the law."Iowa Congressman Zach Nunn wrote that he's closely monitoring the reports. "I'm grateful for the swift, professional response by law enforcement and first responders. The men and women of the Guard represent the best of us. While we await further details, please join me in praying for the injured and their families."Iowa Rep. Randy Feenstra reacted to the shooting, saying his thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones. "The brave men and women of the National Guard are real American heroes."Iowa Sen.
