A woman was found dead and a 2-year-old child was found alone but unharmed after a welfare check at a Stockton residence on Tuesday, the police department said. Officers responded to the residence on Melody Court just after 6:30 a.m. for the welfare check. Stockton police said that after entering the residence, officers found a 36-year-old woman with multiple lacerations on her body. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The 2-year-old child was also found inside the home, but they were unharmed, officials said. It's unclear how long it had been since the woman was last seen and how long the toddler had been alone inside of the residence. Stockton police said homicide detectives have taken over the investigation. No suspect information or motive has been released.
