JOLIET, IL — A 39-year-old man from Wyndotte, Michigan who is now homeless and living in Joliet, was arrested on Christmas morning in connection with an altercation inside one of the Walgreens stores on West Jefferson Street.

Joliet police say Pierre McDuell was taken away in handcuffs, this time on charges of theft, battery and violation of his pretrial release. Joliet police also arrested and booked him into the Will County Jail on Dec. 3-8 and Oct. 8-9.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, around 11 a.m. on Christmas, the officers responded to the Walgreens at 1163 West Jefferson Street for a retail theft and battery.

Joliet police say McDuell concealed packaged alcohol under his coat while inside the store and walked toward the front entrance. A female employee confronted McDuell, requested the concealed alcohol be returned, and instructed him to leave the store. Although McDuell initially handed over the alcohol, he refused to leave. It is alleged that McDuell then pushed the employee aside, retrieved the alcohol, and exited the store without paying, the arrest report showed.

McDuell was located a short time later in the 1500 block of West Jefferson Street and taken into custody without incident. Joliet police realized that McDuell was already on pretrial release for a prior charge. He was processed at the Joliet Police Department and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility. Will County Jail records indicate that McDuell was let out of the jail on Saturday morning.
