JOLIET — For the fourth time in his life, 53-year-old Joliet citizen Pedro Barrios finds himself facing criminal charges involving allegations of drunken driving. In recent days, Joliet police took Barrios into custody on an arrest warrant related to two charges of aggravated DUI, aggravated driving while license revoked and obstructing identification.
The felony DUI charge filed by the Will County State's Attorney's Office indicated this marks the fourth DUI offense for Barrios.
According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, back on January 10, at 8:19 p.m., the officers responded to the intersection of Laraway Road and Manhattan Road for a crash.
A Chevrolet 3500 truck struck another vehicle in the intersection before fleeing westbound on Laraway Road without providing aid or information. No injuries were reported in the crash.
Officers later located the truck near Manhattan Road and Briggs Street and conducted a traffic stop upon the vehicle. The driver was later determined to be Barrios, however, at the time of the stop, he provided the identity of a different person, English advised.
The police pointed out that Barrios displayed behaviors consistent with possible alcohol impairment based upon the officer's observations. Barrios performed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody without incident. The truck was towed from the scene.
Following further investigation of this case, the correct identity of Barrios was determined, and an arrest warrant was obtained on April 3. Barrios was processed at the Joliet Police Department after turning himself in on April 11 and he was given his notice to appear in court.
