BEAUMONT, CA — A Riverside County Sheriff's Investigation that began in Hemet ended with a large police presence in Beaumont Wednesday afternoon.

At 4:13 p.m., RSO deputies were dispatched to the 26000 block of Columbia Street in Hemet regarding an assault with a deadly weapon.

"Upon arrival, deputies located evidence of a shooting," said Lt. Dierdre Vickers. "One person was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries." Little else was known about the incident that led sheriff's deputies to Beaumont, however, the police presence seen off Beaumont Avenue and 6th Street was directly related, Vickers told Patch.

"Deputies have one suspect in custody. The investigation is active and ongoing. There is no additional information available."

Multiple police and sheriff's vehicles arrived in the area at 4:50 p.m., and the Beaumont Avenue road closure between Sixth and Seventh Streets was temporarily blocked from traffic, as a helicopter circled above.
