Grand Crossing, Chicago shooting: Police shoot, suspect who shot woman, fired at officers on South Ingleside Avenue, CPD says

Chicago police shot and seriously injured a suspect accused of shooting a woman and firing shots at officers on the city's South Side on Friday night, officials said.

Police said officers responded to a domestic disturbance call regarding a male armed with a gun and a knife in the Grand Crossing neighborhood's 7900-block of South Ingleside Avenue just after 7:45 p.m.

When officers arrived, the suspect, whose age was not immediately known, tried to flee and fired shots toward them, police said.

Police said two officers then fired back, striking the suspect, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body. Officers rendered aid on the scene.

The suspect was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he is listed in serious condition and remains in custody, police said.

Investigators found a gun on the scene, and both officers involved were transported to a local hospital for observation.

Before officers responded to the scene, police say, the suspect shot a 23-year-old woman at a home in the same block. The victim, who suffered two gunshot wounds to the arm, was transported to the same hospital, where she is listed in good condition.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability and CPD's Investigative Response Team are investigating.

The officers involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for a minimum period of 30 days.

Further information was not immediately available.
