Gary shooting today: Gary, Indiana police officer shoots man armed with knife near East 22nd Avenue and Ohio Street, PD says

A police officer shot a man who was armed with a knife in northwest Indiana on Sunday, officials said.

Gary police said officers responded a report of a suicidal man who had stabbed himself with a knife multiple times.

Responding officers found the man standing with a knife in his hand in the east alley of East 22nd Avenue and Ohio Street.

Police told the man to drop the knife, but he started to move toward an officer, the department said.

That officer then fired his weapon three times, striking the man in the arm.

The man's condition was not known, police said.
