Fatally wounded victim takes gunman's weapon, shoots him in San Fernando Valley drug deal gone wrong, LAPD says

Two men shot each other with the same gun during a drug deal that went awry Saturday afternoon in the San Fernando Valley, authorities said.

The incident unfolded about 4 p.m. in the 20400 block of Sherman Way, between Oso and Mason avenues in Winnetka, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department said.

According to police, a 31-year-old man was buying drugs from a 36-year-old man, who robbed and shot the younger man.

During the altercation, the man who was shot first somehow managed to obtain the gunman's weapon and shot him, the LAPD said.

Both men were transported to a hospital, where the 31-year-old man was pronounced dead, authorities said. The condition of the man who shot first was not available.

The identities of the deceased man and the suspect in custody were not immediately released.
