Fatal Shooting In Banning At Jack's Market, Police Seek Information
BANNING, CA — One person was killed, another wounded in a double shooting Monday at Banning's Jack's Market, police say.
Just before 7 p.m., Banning police officers arrived at the corner mini-market on 8th Street, on reports of a shooting, according to Police Acting Capt. Brandon Smith.
Upon arrival, they found two men, both shot at the scene.
One man had suffered multiple gunshot wounds outside the store, and another man inside was taken to a nearby trauma hospital in critical condition. Video captured from the scene shows the body of one man, draped with a cloth, awaiting the coroner's response.
According to witnesses of the shooting who wished to remain anonymous, "an argument started within a group of young individuals when shots were heard." One witness stated they "saw a car speeding away after the shooting," and that the "suspects wore ski masks." Those accounts have yet to be verified by police.
Though no identifications have yet been released, a family who gathered at 8th and Ramsey during the investigation believed the victim was their son.
The Banning Police Department Detective Bureau, with assistance from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department's Forensics Team and Coroners Bureau, processed the scene.
During the investigation, North 8th Street, between Ramsey Street and Williams Street, was closed to traffic.
"This is an active investigation. When more information is available, it will be released," Smith said.
