Nearly two months after Montray Allen was shot and killed outside an apartment complex near North Avenue, his family is pleading with the community to speak with police to help solve the case. Allen's family described him as a loving, outgoing father, son, and a father figure to his younger siblings. "He was like my dad. Like he played the dad role. Like, when I was wrong, he would tell me when I'm wrong, but when I'm right, he'll make sure I know that I'm right. Even if I think I'm wrong," said his sister Taujanae Beaver. Allen was also part of the Voice of the Youth as a teen. "He was like a jokester, very confident. And people loved him, his energy. So I always will remember that energy and always remember that smile," said Berry Accius, the founder of Voice of the Youth and a community advocate.Accius is calling for people to step up. "When you have a moment like this and you're seeing there were so many people that know what happened, but not saying anything, it speaks volumes to why there isn't enough justice in our community, because we stand by a code that really is not helpful for anyone moving forward," Accius said.Police have received anonymous tips about a person of interest but need a witness to come forward. "The more people that show up, we get a bigger, better picture of what happened. But even just one person comes forward and tells us what happens, that's going to be very instrumental in this investigation," said Anthony Gamble, spokesperson for Sacramento police.Police emphasized how critical this is in bringing a case to the district attorney's office. "Imagine this is your loved one. And I know people are uncomfortable sometimes speaking to the police. Maybe there's outside influences that are there. But imagine that's your loved one, that you're having to go through life without them. That's what that family's dealing with, their loved one," Gamble said. "I want to say I love you. And whoever hasn't spoke up yet, y'all need to speak up, because I would do it for y'all," Beaver said. If you are a witness with information regarding this investigation, you're asked to contact the dispatch center at (916) 808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357).See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app | Subscribe to our morning newsletter | Find us on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel
