East Garfield Park, Chicago shooting: Man shot during struggle with armed robbery suspect in 3100-block of West Madison Street

A man was shot during a struggle with an armed robber on the city's West Side on Saturday night, Chicago police said.

Police said the shooting happened in the East Garfield Park neighborhood's 3100-block of West Madison Street around 10:50 p.m.

A 44-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk when a gunman approached him and demanded his belongings, police said.

Police said a struggle ensued, and the gun went off, striking the victim in the ankle.

The victim took himself to Stroger Hospital, where he is in good condition.

The gunman fled the scene.

There is no one in custody, and Area Four detectives are investigating.

Police did not immediately provide further information about the shooting.
