Drunk Driver Ran Stop Sign In Deadly Camden Co. Crash: Documents
GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ — A Camden County man accused of driving drunk in a deadly crash had run a stop sign before leaving the victims' vehicle overturned last month, according to documents Patch obtained.
William St. John, 27, of Mount Ephraim, crashed into a minivan Dec. 29 in Gloucester City,
Police gave St. John a breathalyzer test that showed a blood alcohol content of 0.14 percent — nearly twice the legal limit for driving — according to the affidavit for his arrest.
The crash happened around 2 a.m. Dec. 29 on Route 130 North and Klemm Avenue, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office. St. John fled the scene, leaving the other vehicle flipped onto its side, the affidavit says.
St. John parked his vehicle in a nearby liquor store's parking lot and fled by foot, according to court documents. Shortly after, officers found him walking and took him into custody.
Eight people were extracted from the minivan, including an unconscious woman who succumbed to her injuries days later at the hospital, authorities said.
The woman — identified as Melina Dubosse, 62, of Philadelphia — was pronounced dead on Jan. 2.
Six other passengers had been brought to the hospital for treatment.
At the police station, St. John informed officers that he drank alcohol, drove his vehicle and got into a crash, the affidavit says. He also told police he left the scene "because he was scared," according to the document.
St. John has a court appearance scheduled for Feb. 13.
