JOLIET, IL — A 26-year-old Chicago motorist who was taken away in handcuffs by the Joliet police force following Wednesday evening's crash at sundown along Houbolt Road. Authorities say that John Walker was arrested and later released on his notice to appear in Will County court on charges of aggravated DUI, DUI-Drug and Alcohol Combination and possession of cannabis.
The Joliet police did not pull Walker over, rather, he was in a crash with two other motorists.
According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 8:04 p.m. on Wednesday, the officers responded to Houbolt Road and Longford Drive for a traffic crash. Police say that a Chevrolet Equinox driven by Walker was northbound on Houbolt Road and when he approached the intersection at Longford Drive, his vehicle collided into the rear of a Volkswagen Jetta. This collision then pushed the Volkwagen into the rear of a Toyota truck.
The Volkswagen and Toyota were both northbound on Houbolt stopped at the red light at Longford Drive. No injuries were reported from the crash.
While Joliet police were speaking with Walker, he appeared to be impaired by alcohol and Walker also admitted to smoking cannabis prior to driving, English noted.
Walker was placed into custody without incident after completing field sobriety tests. The arrest reports indicate that cannabis was recovered from Walker following the police search. Walker was also cited for driving while license suspended, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
