Driver dozes off causing crash that killed woman in Madera County, CHP says

A woman was killed after the California Highway Patrol says a man dozed off behind the wheel.

Officers say the deadly collision happened around 8:40 a.m. Monday.

They say a 19-year-old man driving a Chevy Silverado was heading south on Highway 233 north of Avenue 22.

The man says he fell asleep and drifted into the north lane, crashing into a BMW driven by a 46-year-old woman.

The impact caused the Chevy to overturn and the BMW ended up on a dirt shoulder.

A 53-year-old female passenger in the BMW died.

Both drivers sustained minor injuries.
