There was a show of support Thursday at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse for a teenager who was shot at Douglass Park pool over the summer.
For the first time, the injured teen himself spoke exclusively with ABC7 as the former Chicago lifeguard accused in the shooting that left another teen dead appeared in court.
There were cheers for the 15-year-old boy who survived a critical gun shot wound. Jeremy Herred Jr. is paralyzed, but he has made progress since he was shot over the summer.
Herred Jr. said it was "very good" to see all the people there to support him.
"This baby, God done blessed him so much, and I just thank God everyday that he's still with us here," his grandmother Mirria Herred said.
"I'm just grateful," his mother Tanshanikia Williams said. "I'm just grateful."

"Always believe," Herred Jr. said. "Never give up."
For the first time Herred Jr. was well enough to be in court as the man accused in the shooting the appeared in a courtroom.
Charles Leto is a former Chicago Park District lifeguard charged for shooting two teens at Douglass Park Pool in June. Marjay Dotson , 15, was killed and Herred Jr. was critically injured. The shooting was captured on video.

On Thursday, Leto appeared briefly. It was supposed to be a hearing to determine if Leto should remain in custody, but his lead attorney had a sick child at home and asked to reschedule.
So, the dozens of people in court for Herred Jr. left court without witnessing the anticipated hearing. Afterward. his family shared the hardship they say they have endured.
"They get to change dates and stuff like this from them being sick or whatever they got going on but we are here everyday," the victim's father Jeremy Herred Sr. said. "We can't put nothing off on the side."

'We are going to show up every time we aren't going to stop showing up and Jeremy is going to show up as well, so they can push it back as they want, and we are going to be here every time," Tanshanikia Williams said.
"That man need to see what he done he need to face little Jeremy, and see what he did he need to know Marjay's family, and see what he did," Herred Jr.'s grandfather Terris Williams said. "He need to face it, because we face it everyday."
So many people were at the courthouse for Herred Jr. that not everyone could fit in the small court room. The judge told those in the gallery she would try to move the case to a larger courtroom next time to accommodate the crowd.
The detention hearing for Leto has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 23 at 10 a.m. Leto's attorney declined to comment Thursday.

As for Herrod Jr., he is heading back to his rehab facility, but says he wants to come back for the next hearing.
