Double shooting in Rhawnhurst leaves one man dead

A hail of gunfire tore through the 1700 block of Teesdale Street just before 4 p.m. Officers arrived to find two people shot.

They found a man lying in the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Police rushed him to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he later died.

"There was also a second female victim who was shot in her ankle, who was also transported by police to Jefferson Torresdale and listed in stable condition," said Captain Christopher Bradshaw, Command Inspections Bureau, Philadelphia Police.

Police said the woman who was shot is 18-years-old.

A neighbor, too shaken to show his face on camera, told Action News he had just sat down for lunch when the gunfire erupted.

"I heard some sound, bang bang bang, so first I thought someone was banging my door, or something, like anything, or maybe someone doing something like working or something like hammering," said the neighbor.

He's lived in the neighborhood for 15 years, and said nothing like this has ever happened.

"It's crazy, actually crazy, it's scary because there's kids here, and we're living here like in the nighttime walking here we're never scared in this neighborhood. Now we have to think about it like extra careful or something," said a neighbor.

Detectives placed 40 evidence markers across the scene as the search intensified for the shooters.

"Right now all we have is suspects is two males wearing black clothing and black ski masks," said Bradshaw.

Police have not yet released the identity of the man who died.
