Deshawn Jones, who armed himself before Carpentersville police shooting on Woodland Court, charged: Kane County officials

A 32-year-old Carpentersville man who allegedly armed himself before being shot by police in August has been charged in the incident.

Deshawn Jones has been charged with armed violence, possessing a controlled substance, aggravated assault of a peace officer, aggravated assault using a firearm against a peace officer and obstructing a police officer, the Kane County State' Attorney's Office said Wednesday.

The state's attorney's office said Jones called 911 three times on Aug. 28, asking for assistance.

When Carpentersville police responded to Jones' home in the 100-block of Woodland Court, they found a weapon near suspected cocaine, officials said.

Jones refused medical treatment and went into a bedroom, where he armed himself with another gun, officials said.

Fearing for their safety, officers shot at Jones, who was injured, officials said.

Police found three total guns at the home, including an AK-47, officials said.

Jones was released from the hospital on Monday, and moved to Kane County Jail.

He appeared in court Tuesday, and was ordered detained, pending trial.

He's next due in court next Friday.

The Kane County Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the police shooting.
