David Johnson 2nd man sentenced for shooting, killing 72-year-old Carl Kosmos in Dolton, Illinios failed carjacking

A second man has been sentenced for shooting and killing a 72-year-old man in a Dolton failed carjacking, court documents show.

Carl Kosmos, 73, was shot and killed while he was sleeping in his car in August 2020.

David Johnson and co-defendant Treyante Maxwell attempted to carjack Kosmos as he slept.

Kosmos tried to drive away but Johnson opened fire.

The 73-year-old was shot and died at the hospital, police said.

Both were charged with felony murder and aggravated vehicular hijacking.

Over five years after the shooting, Johnson pleaded guilty to murder. He received a sentence of 30 years, plus an additional three years on a separate armed robbery case.

Last December, Maxwell pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 27 years in prison.
