
Days after two teenagers and an adult were shot in a populated park, the city of Davis shared an update on the investigation. The shooting happened at Community Park around 3 p.m. Saturday, about a mile away from the UC Davis campus. The 24-year-old and two teenagers who were shot are expected to recover.Hundreds of people were in the area at the time of the shooting. (Watch previous coverage in the video player above.)Saturday was also UC Davis Picnic Day, an annual open house celebration for students, applicants, families and alumni that draws thousands of attendees to the area.But the event at Community Park was not permitted for the size of the crowd that attended, the city said."Event organizers for the Community Park event only had a permit for amplified sound and did not obtain other required permits from the City for an event of this size in park space," the city said in a statement.The city did note that the police department and Picnic Day organizers had meetings to prepare for event logistics, staffing and public safety strategies.As of Tuesday, the Davis Police Department has not announced any arrests, but officials say they do have suspect descriptions. However, the city said investigators are not sharing those details in an effort to not "jeopardize the integrity of the investigation by prematurely releasing descriptions."Officials said the shooting did not appear to be random and that the police department does not believe there is a continued threat to the community.The city also said the FBI has joined the investigation, along with other regional, state and federal law enforcement partners.Community Park is open, but city officials said the "tot lot" at Rainbow City was closed for equipment repair.Going forward, the city said it is "actively evaluating our planning, communication and response strategies to strengthen future operations, including special events and notifications."See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app | Subscribe to our morning newsletter | Find us on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel
