
Three people died, two of them children, after a head-on crash in the Stockton area, officials said Tuesday. A driver is now in custody for driving under the influence.The California Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 9:20 p.m. Sunday along Mariposa Road west of Dodds Road. A driver in a gray Ford SUV was traveling eastbound on Mariposa Road when the vehicle went into the westbound lane, colliding with a silver Hyundai sedan that was traveling westbound.CHP said inside the sedan were five people: a female driver, her three children and a man in the front passenger seat. The man died at the scene, and a 4-year-old and a 2-year-old child were unresponsive.Those two children were pronounced dead after being sent to San Joaquin General Hospital, CHP said. The mother and her 1-year-old child are also at the hospital with major injuries.CHP said the driver of the SUV was sent to Modesto Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries and was arrested for DUI.
