Chicago shooting: Woman shot, seriously wounded while standing in backyard on South Side, police say

A 37-year-old woman was wounded while standing in her backyard in the Pill Hill neighborhood Thursday morning, Chicago police said.

The shooting took place at about 2:40 a.m. in the 9200-block of South Merrill Avenue.

Police said the woman was in the backyard when she heard gunshots and felt pain and realized she was shot in the thigh and back.

The woman was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition.
