Chicago shooting: Woman shot, killed, man seriously injured on South Parnell Avenue in Washington Heights, police say

A woman was killed and a man was seriously injured in a shooting Thursday on the city's South Side.

The shooting happened around 1:57 p.m. in the 9900 block of South Parnell Avenue in Washington Heights, Chicago police said.

Police responded to the scene, where a 59-year-old woman was found with multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman as 59-year-old Deserie Jeffers. Her death was ruled a homicide.

A 55-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head was also found at the scene, CPD said. He was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

No further information was available as Chicago police continue to investigate.
