Chicago shooting: Woman shot by passenger while driving in Brighton Park, police say

A woman driving in Brighton Park was shot by a passenger Wednesday night, Chicago police said.

The incident took place at about 8 p.m. in the 3500-block of South Richmond Street.

Police said an 18-year-old woman was driving when a 39-year-old man who was a passenger took out a gun and shot the victim in the abdomen.

The woman veered off the road before coming to a stop, police said.

During the incident, police said the man suffered two gunshot wounds. He was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police said.

The man was taken into custody and a weapon was recovered, police said.
