Chicago police shooting: Suspect shot by officer on 71st Street in South Shore, CPD says

Chicago police and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability said Tuesday that someone was shot in a police shooting last Friday.

CPD said in a news release that further investigation by the Investigative Response Team revealed the suspect, who is believed to have been shot by an officer, sought medical attention at a hospital, but left before receiving treatment.

It was initially believed that no one was injured. CPD did not immediately provide any additional information on the suspect.

No one is in custody, police said Tuesday.

A Chicago police officer shot at an armed suspect Friday afternoon in the city's South Shore neighborhood, CPD said.

Officers saw a suspect pull out a gun just after 2 p.m. in the 2000-block of East 71st Street, police said.

The suspect then fired shots at a victim, before running away, police said.

Two officers then followed the suspect, and one officer shot at the suspect, CPD said.

COPA said police body cameras captured the incident.

The shooting drew a large police presence along a row of storefronts.

Video from Chopper 7 showed at least a dozen shots were fired.
