Chicago police are investigating an incident on the North Side as a possible hate crime.
CPD said a 27-year-old man was walking in the 3100-block of North Broadway in Lakeview just before 2:30 a.m. on New Year's Day, when he got into a verbal altercation with two suspects.
The suspects beat up the man, and pushed him into the glass window of The Bagel Restaurant and Deli, police said.
The man's hand was cut, and he was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in good condition.

The suspects fled north.
There is no one in custody, and Area Three detectives are investigating the incident as a hate crime.
CPD did not immediately provide any additional information about why they are investigating the incident as a hate crime.
