Chatham, Chicago crime: William Warrior charged with hitting cop, squad car with vehicle on South Cottage Grove Avenue, CPD says

A suspect is facing charges after he allegedly hit an officer and a squad car on the city's South Side on Saturday evening, CPD said.

Police said officers responded to a call about a person with a gun in the Chatham neighborhood's 8100-block of South Cottage Grove Avenue around 5:30 p.m.

Responding officers saw someone who matched the description get into a Chevy Impala, police said.

Police said the suspect then tried to flee, striking an officer and a marked CPD squad car with the vehicle in the process.

The suspect continued driving to the Bronzeville neighborhood's 4100-block of South Indiana Avenue, where officers took him into custody.

William Warrior, a 29-year-old Alsip man, is facing several charges, including aggravated battery, police said on Sunday.

The injured officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said.

Police did not immediately provide further information.
