Chatham, Chicago crime: Suspect hits cop, squad car with vehicle while fleeing from police on South Cottage Grove Avenue, CPD says

A suspect hit an officer and a squad car with a vehicle while trying to flee from Chicago police on the city's South Side on Saturday evening, CPD said.

Police said officers responded to a call about a person with a gun in the Chatham neighborhood's 8100-block of South Cottage Grove Avenue around 5:30 p.m.

Responding officers saw a male who matched the description get into a Chevy Impala, police said.

Police said the suspect then tried to flee, striking an officer and a marked CPD squad car with the vehicle in the process.

The suspect continued driving to the Bronzeville neighborhood's 4100-block of South Indiana Avenue, where officers took him into custody.

The injured officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said.

Charges are pending. Police did not immediately provide further information.
