MORTON GROVE, IL — Two people attempting to break into a car Wednesday morning brandished firearms and fired four rounds at a homeowner who had confronted the pair. Police said the incident occurred at around 6:02 a.m. in the 5700 block of Reba Street.
Morton Grove police responded to a report of shots fired related to a motor vehicle burglary at the address. Officers secured the scene and confirmed no one had been injured.
During the subsequent investigation, police learned the homeowner saw the two unknown people breaking into the car and attempted to confront them. The pair then pulled out the firearms, fired the four rounds in the direction of the homeowner, before fleeing the scene in a gray Genesis sedan with a stolen Illinois plate.
Police said the vehicle was identified traveling away from the area via multiple license plate reader cameras located nearby.
According to police, there was no ongoing or immediate threat to residents in the area. The suspect and vehicle information was shared with regional law enforcement partners, and Morton Grove police are pursuing multiple leads.
