Bianca Esquivel death: Family heartbroken after pregnant woman, unborn child killed in suspected DUI crash in Anaheim

The family of a 24-year-old pregnant woman and her unborn child who were killed early Sunday morning in Anaheim in a suspected drunk driving crash are speaking out after the driver was arrested.

The victim was identified by relatives as Bianca Esquivel, who was expecting her second child. She and her boyfriend, Oscar -- who asked that his last name not be used or his face shown -- had just left In-N-Out to satisfy a pregnancy craving and were heading home when the crash happened.

Anaheim police said a suspected drunk driver ran a red light and crashed into them.

"We were laughing on the way back, we were just smiling. It was so fast. She screamed, she was like, 'Oh my god,'" Oscar said outside UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he is being treated for injuries. "She was my best friend."

"We were so excited. We were already planning stuff, buying clothes," he said.

Anaheim police said the driver who struck them, 24-year-old Daniel Ramos from Riverside, was booked on suspicion of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter.

Bianca's sister, Viri Esquivel, said she rushed to the scene after her phone flagged a crash through Bianca's emergency contact setting.

"I was her emergency contact on her cellphone, so the SOS detected a car crash, and it gave me the exact location," she said.

Family members described Bianca as a homebody who was pursuing a career in accounting and loved spending time with her family.

"My sister was very excited with her second child. She leaves behind a 4-year-old, and I personally don't know how to answer, 'Where's my mommy?' Because his mommy isn't coming back," Viri said.

Oscar, who remains hospitalized, said he is unsure how he and their 4-year-old son will move forward without Bianca.

"He did not just kill someone. He killed someone's best friend, someone's kid," Oscar said.

Because Bianca was pregnant, police said additional charges are possible.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help support Bianca's family.
