Archer Heights, Chicago shooting today: Man shot outside motel near West 49th Street, South Archer Avenue, police department says

A man was shot and critically injured while sitting in a car outside a Southwest Side motel, police said.

Police said the shooting happened near West 49th Street and South Archer Avenue in the Archer Heights neighborhood just before 5:30 a.m. Chopper 7 was over the scene.

A 33-year-old man was sitting in a vehicle when someone approached him, took out a gun and fired shots, police said.

The victim, shot in the body multiple times, was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

There is no one in custody, and Area One detectives are investigating.

Police did not immediately provide further information about the shooting.
