Allentown, Pa. father charged with murder in death of son decade after infant abuse

More than a decade after authorities say he abused his infant son, a Pennsylvania father is now charged with the boy's murder.

Kyle Hinkle, 38, of Allentown, was charged Monday with third-degree murder in the death of his son, Leonardo, who died last year at age 11.

In October 2012, Bensalem police responded to St. Christopher's Hospital, where the child was admitted to the ICU. Doctors determined the injuries were inflicted and caused by significant force consistent with abusive head trauma.

According to investigators, Hinkle admitted he shook the infant multiple times, saying he was unable to stop the crying and did so without supporting the child's head.

He was initially charged with assault, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years in prison with three years of supervised parole.

Police say Leonardo died in August 2024 from complications related to the 2012 abuse.

The district attorney approved murder charges this week. Hinkle is being held in Bucks County on 10% of $2 million bail.
